These suggestions seem to be the best ones (no particular order). If you want to read the whole discussion, you can follow the link at the bottom.
Most of these suggestions are personally biased and it's hard to tell if there is a best way. I've tried to sort out the suggestions which seem to be worth trying. By the end of the day though, every OT will have to experiment to find out what works best for him/her. Some suggestions are also depending on if you spec protection or if you're a hybrid with a distinct OT role for the whole raid.
- Rage potions, if you aren't going to get hit for a while
- Eat boss AOEs (Void Reaver poundings, Gruul cave ins, Lurker whirls etc)
- On Gruul, intervene after a Hurtful strike
- Intervene MT
- Spec hybrid
- Switch to gear with +hit and +block value, Gnomeregan auto-blocker is a good example
- Heroic Strike (bypasses glancing blows and miss rate, and does more damage on top of the threat modifier)
- Get hunters to do chain MD on you
- If better tank gear: go for shield slam, if better dps gear: go for dual wield and heroic strike
- Sharpening stone, unless you are getting windfury
- Crystal Band of Valor
- Cap hit rating
-
If you are having problems burning rage, go with a faster weapon so you can burn rage with heroic strikes, otherwise swing a slower main hand weapon with higher average damage (be ready to switch back to a fast weapon when you get aggro, like on Void Reaver)
- Fight boss from behind when possible
- Group setup possibilities:
* Retribution paladin give +3% crit
* Feral druid with the tanks for +3% crit
* Survival hunter giving +200 or more attack power
* Improved hunter's mark giving +110 attack power
* Enhancement shaman giving +10% attack power
Example:
* MT
* OT
* Enhancement Shaman
* Feral druid (for backup and buff)
* Warlock (stamina buff)Source:
